I love the sun and the waves, but I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for all of the elements and seasons we are gifted in this world. They all hold challenges and wisdom, with Winter getting a lot of grief, particularly for being dark and cold.
As we approach the Winter Solstice, I invite you to bring some intention to your wintering routines. This is the season of the Hermit where we get cozy, quiet, and go inward. We may also welcome deeper work with the element of fire, and perhaps water, as it shapeshifts.
What wounds can you identify that need nurturing and healing so you may emerge in a few months stronger and more balanced, and less likely to repeat undesireable cycles or behaviors?
As always, today’s cards will bring the message you most need to hear as you begin to think about your wintering ahead.
with love and snow,
Natalie

One
King of Wands
“Ask your eyes to find something beautiful today.”
Wands are all fire, and the King is an excellent leader. As you prepare for winter, notice which parts of you embody the King of Wands, his fire, and his entrepreneurial spirit.
Are you feeling called to explore something, but feeling doubtful?
Your work, then, is to seek the places within yourself where you are confident and aligned. It is an inner knowing that, if it feels like the right path, it is. Ignore the masses, trust your intuition.
This is a call to lead yourself. Be carried by your own ideas. Shut out the noise.
Embrace the gifts of winter with self-trust and the inner knowing that you are enough. You can—and will—see yourself through to the other side and emerge confident and strong so that you may lead or support others.
Two
Queen of Discs
“Play a song that the river understands, that the trees can sing along to and that the stars will memorize. Nature always listens to your heart.”
This is all about creating a nurturing environment this winter season. Things like your home, your money, the physical Earthly things that bring you comfort and joy.
As you prepare for this dark, quiet time, take stock of what you have created, and be grateful for your space and other physical abundance in your life.
For real, take some actual time and presence of mind to scan your home, your body, your cupboards. Take a moment with each item. Reconnect. Recognize the nurturing power of your home, how it supports you, and how you have enough.
Make tea, build fires, hold in your hand small items you’ve placed on shelves, and connect with them again.
Gather or purchase any items you feel called to add to this space and get excited about the gifts you’ll find in the darkness this winter.
Prepare your nest. Appreciate all you have. Indulge a little and snuggle in.
Three
The Sun
“I have a mermaid soul. I have no fear of diving deep or splashing in the shallow.”
Make this year’s hibernation playful and joyful whenever possible.
Yes, there is deep inner work that follows the dark months and snow, but there is also room to play. It’s a beautiful time to let go of the outer world and create from your inner one.
Paint, cook, make things with your hands, listen to music with headphones and concentration…find ways to play just because.
This is particularly useful if you’re feeling restless or overburdened. It’s important to get out of your adult head and to nurture the inner child. Perhaps going inward during this quiet season will allow space for healing old wounds that are still hanging around.
Practice joy.
