Aloha from O’ahu,
Welcome to another week and another pick-a-card reading!
These weekly letters are created to offer you some guidance. This might be a problem you’re working through, a question, or something else you’d like to bring to the cards.
I aim to read the messages that come up truthfully and clearly so you can connect with your inner knowing and decide how to take this information into your life.
This week’s reading is from the Woodland Wardens Oracle by Jessica Roux. It’s one of my favorites.

The Deer & Oat, reversed {healing}
“The shy and gentle fallow deer is known for its white spots and the broad, velvety antlers it sheds and regrows each year. Similarly, oats are symbols of restorative nutrition. Even in poor soil, oats can flourish, providing hearty sustenance.”
Have you felt like you need a little break but haven’t given yourself one?
This might look like a morning to sleep in, distance from the office, or having someone else prepare meals for a few days.
Whatever you’re seeking space from, this is your sign to carve it out with the resources you have available.
The good news is that when we humans put our minds to really wanting something, we’re pretty resourceful.
So make yourself a priority this week in whatever shape that takes.
From the guidebook:
How do I rest and recharge?
What practices nourish my soul?
two
The Hawk & Thistle {graceful persistence}
“The hawk is a keen and vigilant observer, so much so that ”watchful” and “hawkeyed” have become synonyms…The thistle can thrive in a variety of environments, from verdant hills to rocky shores.”
What you’re most trying to achieve right now is nearly in your grasp. This might be attention from someone in your life, progress at work, or solving a problem for your family or yourself.
Make sure it is indeed what you want, and not a motivation tied to your environment somehow.
Regardless of your focus, this card asks you to examine how you can balance fiercely going after what you want with dignity.
In other words, standing your ground without picking a fight or insulting someone. Or perhaps it’s not cutting corners. Maybe it’s helping someone else first before you get what you want.
From the guidebook:
How can I thrive in a difficult situation?
Am I too easily influenced by my environment?
three
The Skunk & Magnolia, reversed {protection}
“It’s black and white fur serves as a warning to all would-be assailants. Similarly, the magnolia is known for its large, waxy leaves and copious blooms. Its thick-petaled flowers are some of the oldest on earth, having evolved to endure damage from beetles.”
Sometimes, your high walls of self-protection keep you from getting what you want.
This is a call to be more vulnerable. Vulnerability is a form of trust, especially trusting yourself. It can be scary, but ultimately, it opens the doors for a deeper connection.
It’s easy to hinder your growth or tie yourself off from opportunities by playing it safe all the time.
Instead, try examining these boundaries and exploring where you can stretch them.
“Where your fear is, there your task is.” -Carl Jung
From the guidebook:
“Who or what makes me feel safe?”
