Welcome to another calendar year! Or maybe you’re like, “ugh,” New Year’s is not for me, thanks.
No matter. I’m feeling more aligned and clear than I have the past few years, so I’m going with it. You do whatever feels right for you.
For today’s reading, I’m inviting you to apply the following to your card pile:
Card 1 (left to right): Something to release in the new year
Card 2: Something to embrace or notice in the new year
Card 3 (oracle): Over arching theme/energy to consider
However you work with the energy of this time of year is up to you. Some folks are full-steam ahead while others turn quietly inward.
Our culture leads us to believe—at least here in the west—that we must go, go, go and create big, audacious goals.
The only right way, in my experience, is to listen to what feels right for you.
If early January lights a fire of motivation under you, go for it. If not, there’s nothing wrong with that either.
Some of my best insights and growth have come from slow, quiet stretches of time that, from the outside looking in, seem like I’m not doing much.
Don’t let that fool you if that approach resonates. Some of our biggest ah-ha moments are incredibly sneaky and quiet.
xo,
Natalie

ONE
To Release: Six of Swords, reversed
Are you holding onto something for fear that nothing else will come to take its place? The Six is all about transition, but transitions can be super scary, too.
Recognize where you can loosen your grip a little and allow in the change that is seeking you. Yes, you.
Another way to think of it is: Where are you paddling your canoe up stream in your life? Why not turn it around and release a little control? See what happens.
To Embrace/Notice: Knight of Cups, reversed
The Knight of Cups is so creative and romantic and emotionally grounded. Look for areas in your life where these same energies are strong.
Are you not acting on a great idea because your imagination is going crazy and you keep second guessing yourself?
Are you sabotaging something great by allowing jealousy or moodiness to take over?
Once you’re aware of what’s holding back, it’s time to create and imagine and go for it. Everything is waiting for you on the other side if you get out of your own way.
Theme to consider: Fellow Travelers
There might not be a better reminder than this card: You have support all around you.
If you’re working with the Six of Swords and trying to release your grip a little, you might be surprised at who or what shows up just at the right time.
The same goes for the Knight: lean into asking for help or co-creating with another person.
Make room for the love and guidance that is always available to you.
TWO
To release: Page of Swords
This is a reminder to release any self-doubt or fear around expressing yourself and your ideas. Avoid any tendencies to be hasty, then let your ideas be heard.
Have you been wanting to do something for a long time? Are you the person in your social circle that’s been saying the same-ish thing for ages?
Like, “I’m want to learn how to…” or “I’m planning to…”
It’s a great time to release just talking about it and start doing it.
To embrace/notice: Temperance
If you’re a doer, then chances are it’s time to pay extra attention to balancing your days with self care.
Make room for caring for you. Healing doesn’t have to be hours on the meditation mat or expensive spa days. It might be daily reflection, talking to a therapist, or connecting more deeply with nature.
You’re being called to realign yourself with what is most important. The good news is that your body and subconscious mind always know what’s needed most.
Listen to what comes up for you, for what you really need to heal and feel good. Then make a plan.
To consider: Embracing Enthusiasm
What lights you up?
What feels really good to you?
Maybe it’s sleeping in, a great meal, a comedy act, or a hike.
There is no right or wrong here. Just a call to really pay attention to what lights you up and make room for it as often as possible.
THREE
To release: Six of Pentacles, reversed
It’s time to say goodbye for good to any bad habits you’ve developed around money and abundance.
This could be as silent as an inner dialogue that “I’m bad with money” or “I have money, but I’m still not happy” or as overt as terrible spending habits (over- or under-spending) and resource management.
Even the most on-top-of-it folks can still find a spot or two that isn’t serving them in this area. If that’s you, jot it down and make a plan to take a different route.
To embrace/notice: Ace of Pentacles, reversed
Moving forward, it’s time to embrace a clear vision of what is your ultimate dream in the material world. This can include work, finances, physical living space, stuff you buy, etc.
If you had everything you could possibly every want in this realm, what would it actually look like?
Funny thing, most of us have a vague idea of it, but it’s time to get down to specifics and really make your dream come to life. Get as detailed as possible and revisit this list often.
You’ll have a harder time getting there if you don’t know where you’re going.
To consider: Passion and Pleasure
Also, have a little more fun while you’re at it.
Find joy in the moment, no matter how far you feel from your goals. Sip a delicious cup of coffee or breathe in something sweet. Belly laugh. Whatever.
The Pentacle’s earthy, grounded energy can seem heavy at times, so make room for some joy, too.
