I heard a comedian (I wish I could credit them properly, but I don’t remember) make a great joke recently:
Person: “The veil is thin right now.”
Comedian: “Ooooh. Of course, it’s thin; it’s a fucking veil.”
Going inward, seeking to connect with guides, healing old patterns, and dropping in… are all serious work.
I also strongly believe that laughter is medicine, and it’s important not to take every minute of the day or our lives so seriously. That’s a trick of the ego, wanting to feel its most important self.
But also…
I do get thin-veil vibes this time of year. Every time.
While I was feeling all melancholy and connected, I decided to revisit a favorite passage from The Overstory while the girls got ready for bed.
I wanted to share it here since it moves me so much:
“She addresses the cedar, using words of the forest's first humans. "Long Life Maker. I'm here. Down here." She feels foolish, at first. But each word is a little easier than the next.
"Thank you for the baskets and the boxes. Thank you for the capes and hats and skirts. Thank you for the cradles. The beds. The diapers. Canoes.
Paddles, harpoons, and nets. Poles, logs, posts. The rot-proof shakes and shingles. The kindling that will always light."
Each new item is release and relief. Finding no good reason to quit now, she lets the gratitude spill out. "Thank you for the tools. The chests. The decking. The clothes closets. The paneling. I forget.... Thank you," she says, following the ancient formula. "For all these gifts that you have given."
And still not knowing how to stop, she adds, ‘We're sorry. We didn't know how hard it is for you to grow back.’”
-Richard Powers, The Overstory
It’s a tremendous book if you’re looking for a cozy autumn read.
My Altar
A mix of stones, feathers, notes, cards, and anything else that I’m pondering, want to honor or observe, or things that are just nice to look at, my altar is my sacred place. A physical offering to non-physical, pieces of my heart, and a muse for my dreams.
I just re-arranged my altar over Equinox week and thought I’d try something new with the cards for you. Instead of three, there are four decks to choose from this weekend.
Since I offer readings one-on-one over Zoom, I rotate decks and keep them out for easy access.
The Cards
Decks: Pagan Otherworld, Rider-Waite, Wild Unknown, Tarot de Carlotydes

Queen of Swords
This weekend, the Queen of Swords invites you to embrace clarity and honesty in your decisions.
Her energy invites you to approach situations with a level head, cutting through any emotional fog to see the truth.
If you’ve been hesitating to express yourself or make a decision, trust what arises and speak your truth—there’s strength in knowing exactly what you want.
Remember to balance this truth with compassion, too.
While it’s important to be direct, be mindful of how your words and actions impact others. Don’t forget that sensitivity to the emotions of those around you is also a form of wisdom.
This weekend is about balancing your head and heart and stepping confidently into your truth without losing empathy.
two
Six of Cups
The Six of Cups brings a nostalgic energy into your weekend. It’s encouraging you to reconnect with the simple joys of the past.
Whether it’s reaching out to an old friend, revisiting a fave hobby, or reflecting on happy memories, this card calls you to find comfort and healing in the sweetness of what you have experienced and enjoyed.
Looking back can be a way of moving forward, especially if there’s something from your past that still offers wisdom or joy.
The past can be a beautiful place to visit, but don’t let it keep you from fully experiencing the present either. Use these memories as a gentle reminder of what truly brings you happiness.
This weekend, allow the joy of simpler times to inspire you in the here and now.

Five of Cups rx
The Five of Cups reversed signals a weekend of emotional healing and release.
If you’ve been dealing with feelings of disappointment or loss recently, this card indicates that you’re starting to move forward. There’s a sense of emotional renewal as you begin to shift your focus from what went wrong to what’s still good in your life.
The reversed Five of Cups reminds you that healing is not about forgetting the past, but about learning to carry it in a lighter way.
This weekend, allow yourself to recognize the lessons you’ve gained from challenging experiences and use them to guide your next steps.
There is a gentle invitation to forgive—whether it’s yourself or others—and to open up to the possibilities of new emotional energies.

The Sun
The Sun shines brightly over your weekend, bringing high vibes and a sense of joy to whatever you do.
You may feel a renewed sense of confidence and clarity, as if the clouds have lifted and you can finally see your path clearly. Embrace this warmth and allow it shine wherever you end up this weekend.
The Sun also encourages you to celebrate the simple pleasures in life.
This weekend is about basking in the light of who you are and sharing that special sauce with the world. Let joy lead the way, and trust that the energy of the Sun will guide you toward your highest good.
