Happy Winter Solstice!
I have spent the past few years celebrating the Winter Solstice in a variety of ways, from women’s circles and snowy hikes to Despacho ceremonies and more.
Why?
For me, it feels like a perfect time to set intentions, release what feels like it needs to go, and look forward to the year ahead.
I like that it’s a celebration of the sun’s rebirth in the north. The sun keeps us alive, after all. And perhaps the physical, real-world experience of the darkest day of the year—compared with so many arbitrary dates and calendar holidays we humans devise—feels more aligned somehow.
Whatever your reason for being here and reading this today, I invite you (even if you started this process with my letter on Monday) to feel into the energy offered today.
There is no right or wrong way to embrace this shift. Do what feels good for you, or share a simple ceremony with friends and family.
Let what needs to go, go. Let what wants to be heard bubble to the surface.
Today’s reading is a special, 4-card spread for such an occasion.
xo,
Natalie

ONE
South Node, Ace of Swords reversed, Queen of Serpents, & King of Pentacles
This is a beautiful call to settle in, not just in your physical world, but also into your SELF. Your body. Your soul. YOU.
The South Node represents what we carry into this life: wounding, recurring patterns, relationships to Self and others, etc…and asks:
What can I release that I’ve been carrying around, and around, and around?
The South Node shares many similarities with the energy of the Solstice itself, so this is a big ol’ call to really get down to the business of releasing old news. Chances are that a couple of things have bubbled to the surface as you’re reading this.
You’ll know what they are.
The Ace of Swords reversed reminds you to soften your edges a little, both in the process of releasing and as you settle into a more grounded version of YOU. Don’t be hard on yourself during this process with negative talk. Try patience with others. We all have shadow elements, and approaching yours with love rather than shame changes the whole process for the better.
Serpents & Pentacles are interchangeable in certain decks, and these two big energies are here to remind you to lean into what’s stable and abundant in your life.
Even if it doesn’t feel like much, enjoy what’s available to you as much as possible.
The process of releasing is often challenging, but if you lean into stability (the material abundance that’s available to you now like food, shelter, or people), it will help a lot.
And get excited because releasing things is how you make room for something new to find you.
TWO
Uranus, Two of Wands, Two of Wands reversed, & Judgement
Wow.
I have to say, it’s not often a spread screams its message at me. This is one of those spreads.
BIG CHANGES ARE COMING.
Every card here points to forward momentum and change…and unlike the Tower where everything has to break before it can be rebuilt, you are ready to roll!
This is about you and your own process of change and movement. It’s a rise to connect with a new purpose that is has a ton of energy behind it.
Make room for things to really happen for you.
The reversed Two of Wands encourages you to notice where you are held back by fear or lack of organization. This is a perfect time to take a big leap, but be mindful to stay orderly, too. Perhaps try routine reflection each day. Or if you’re a numbers person, measure how things unfold.
Trust that you—and your inner judge—know the way. It’s easy to get caught up in the newness of something, only to be cut down a notch by someone else’s opinion or ideas. Don’t let the noise get to you. Use integrity as your guide.
Pay special attention to all of the dreams and big ideas that come up right now.
How do you dream of showing up in this world and this life?
Now is the time to embody THAT person.
THREE
Sagittarius, The Sun reversed, Three of Cups, and Maiden of Wands
Sovereignty, freedom, exploration.
What do those mean to you?
These cards invite you to notice the energy of creation and connection. Creation can be found everywhere from cooking and crafts to re-thinking an opinion. Connection is sharing your gifts and ideas with others around you, as well as having time to appreciate yourself.
If you’re finding yourself in the darkness these days, the Sun reversed reminds you that even when it feels like the energy required to create and connect is scarce, it is always available to you. And it will grow stronger again.
You’re stronger than you think you are.
Follow your own impulses to make and create right now. Share these with others, no matter how big or small.
You make the rules for yourself.
Where do want to go next? If you’re not sure, that’s okay, too. This is also a positive time to reflect on what you really believe.
What feels good and true for you about the next season ahead?
How can you bring more of that forward into your own life and the lives of those you care about?
